Professional profile

My current post is Consultant Anaesthetist at The Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust. The Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust consists of several hospitals in the South East part of Sussex. My current post is based at The Sussex Orthopaedic NHS Treatment Centre. I was appointed to this post in 2011 - it requires great clinical skills and experience in general and above all, regional anaesthetic techniques. Due to the high number of patients being treated at this centre, my clinical skills are maintained to a very high level. General anaesthesia techniques include simple techniques with laryngeal mask, as well as special procedures like fibre-optic intubation for patients undergoing cervical spine decompressions and fusions. I also provide high number of spinal/epidural anaesthesias for patients having total knee/hip replacements or their revisions. For the hand, arm, foot and ankle operations, I perform all types of regional anaesthesia, all of them under ultrasound guidance, which significantly improves the efficacy, safety and comfort of these techniques. I normally provide comfortable sedation to patients who request this as a supplement to a successful regional block.

My areas of expertise cover all types of anaesthesia needed for different types of surgery except for neuro- and cardio-anaesthesia. This cover all types of sedation, general anaesthesia, regional anaesthesia with sedation or awake regional blocks for patients who either choose to be awake or are not suitable for general anaesthesia or sedation. My special interests are anaesthesia for orthopaedic procedures, anaesthesia for day surgery and anaesthesia in high risk patients. I am especially skilled in all types of regional anaesthesia - regional blocks for operations on upper/lower limbs.
