Professional profile

I am an experienced laparoscopic UGI and General Surgeon. I have had high quality training in advanced laparoscopic GI and general surgery. I have had the privilege to have had exclusive training in laparoscopic bariatric surgery in at least three Centres of Excellence. I have completed the National Bariatric Fellowship and International Bariatric Fellowship in bariatric surgery.

I specialise in laparoscopic anti reflux surgery and hiatus hernia repair. I carry out laparoscopic cholecystectomy with or without cholangiogram, laparoscopic bile duct exploration, laparoscopic splenectomies and laparoscopic repair of all types of hernia. I also perform diagnostic and therapeutic UGI endoscopies.

I have over 23 years NHS experience and nearly 20 years in general surgery. I have performed over 1,000 laparoscopic cholecystectomies and over 1,000 hernia repairs. I have performed many hiatal hernia and anti-reflux surgeries, the majority of which were bypasses. I have also assisted in many primary and revision bariatric surgeries.

I hold the position of Trust Specialty Training Lead for surgery (TSTL) and in this role I am in charge of all aspects of surgical training; general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, urology etc. I am also a member of the JLNC for my hospital.

I am on the national selection panel for the CT and ST (surgical trainees) in General Surgery. I regularly sit on the ARCP/RITA panel for assessment of CT and ST in the North West Deanery. I have over a dozen publications of manuscripts and abstracts in peer review journals.

I have worked for the GMC in designing modules and OSCEs for assessment of doctors at various grades, who have failed the appraisal and revalidation. I have excellent outcomes for laparoscopic surgeries eg laparoscopic cholecystectomy, hernia, anti-reflux surgery. I am a faculty member and teach on the laparoscopic surgical skills course at the RCS, England.
