Commonwealth doctor talks about time at Glasgow

05 August 2014

Spire Edinburgh’s consultant gastroenterologist Dr Andrew Williams was a member of the site medical team at the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014.

Based at the Ravenscraig training venue, he was responsible for looking after the gymnasts, weight lifters and wrestlers. On each shift, he led a medical team consisting of one doctor, three physiotherapists and one nurse. The team were responsible for all athletes on site.

Mr Williams said, "We spent time with the athletes and their coaches to ensure the athletes were at optimal fitness for their respective competitions. I particularly enjoyed meeting the English and Scottish gymnasts and even helped one of the gold medallists with a knee injury sustained in training."

Mr Williams joins a collection of Spire Healthcare consultants and physiotherapists who were selected to support our Scottish athletes at the games.
