Professional profile

Availability - Murrayfield: Monday 11.30am-1pm.

I provide the facial deformity and facial trauma lead for NHS Lothian (incl Borders) as well as general oral and maxillofacial surgery. Specifically, also the total jaw joint replacement surgery service and post trauma and adult cleft deformity surgery service. Prior to relocating to Lothian in 2011 I provided the head and neck lead skin cancer surgery service for NHS Fife.

The development of a new surgical technique presented at the UK specialty scientific meeting lead to the award of the Norman Rowe Clinical Prize by the British association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons for 2008.

I have been an invited speaker at surgical events in USA, South Africa, France and India and have set up clinical trials in USA, Canada, India, South Africa, Botswana, Brazil and remains involved with various surgical projects linked to Scottish Universities.

Personal Profile

I am married with three grown up sons and live in a renovated 17th century cottage beside a beach. Prior to a medical degree I worked as part of the Royal Flying Doctor service as a dentist in outback Australia. I have been involved in the development of new surgical devices and techniques setting up three medical device companies and gained national awards for innovation and regional awards for export. Sports that have given pleasure include, judo, hang gliding, kitebuggy/surf when time allows. Awards Winner: John Logie Baird for Innovation. Winner: SMART Scotland (twice).
