Procedures offered for breast enlargement at Spire Dunedin Hospital

At Spire Dunedin Hospital, we offer a range of breast implant types, sizes and shapes in a variety of brands. Your consultant will help you choose the best options for you.

We usually offer silicone gel implants (soft or firm) for a more natural feel that are less likely to wrinkle, and with Polyurethane-coated implants less likely to rotate and encapsulate.

There’s a range of shapes available:

  • Teardrop shape – you can choose the height and width separately, so there’s more flexibility with the shape
  • Round shape – a greater volume at the top
  • Projection – choose how much the implant sticks out to give a subtle or a more obvious look

Brands that we offer include:

  • Allergan
  • Nagor
  • Polytech
  • Mentor
  • Sebbin

Preparing for breast enlargement surgery at Spire Dunedin Hospital

Getting here

Spire Dunedin Hospital is conveniently situated close to the heart of Reading, on the A4 Bath Road. We’re a short walk from Reading West station and a 10 minute taxi ride from Reading mainline station with direct trains to and from London. There’s free on-site parking for you and your visitors.

Your consultations

Once you’ve made an enquiry, we can quickly arrange for you to meet one of our team of experienced cosmetic surgeons. You’ll usually be offered an appointment within a few days.

During your consultations you’ll have the chance to talk about the type of breast augmentation surgery you’d like, as well as the range of implants we can provide. Your consultant will ask you about your medical history and may carry out a pre-operative assessment.

During your consultations, you’ll be able to discuss:

  • Other alternatives to breast surgery that might be a better option, such as breast uplift
  • What’s involved when you have surgery
  • The kind of anaesthetic you’ll have
  • Possible risks or complications
  • Any tests that need to be carried out before your procedure (eg a mammogram if aged over 40)

Your consultant will be able to answer any questions you may have about your surgery and its results, but there’s no pressure to make a decision. Even if you feel certain about what you want to do next, you’ll have plenty of time to change your mind after your appointment during the cooling-off period.

As per the General Medical Council (GMC) guidelines, you'll have two appointments, with the second consultation no sooner than two weeks after your initial appointment. All consultants are registered with the National Breast Implant Registry. You'll be provided with information regarding this registry and will be asked to sign documentation agreeing to being put on this database.

Talking about breast enlargement surgery

Breast enlargement surgery: your recovery

After surgery, you’ll probably feel some pain or discomfort – our nursing team will give you painkillers to help you with this. You'll also be given a course of post-operative antibiotics. It's therefore important that you inform your surgical team if you have any allergies or issues with certain drugs.

Although everybody’s different and you should always follow your consultant’s advice, here’s a typical recovery timeline for breast enlargement surgery. It's important to note that recovery time depends on the surgeon, the implant choice and position/placement of the implants:
