Mr Nev Davies

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon

BSc, MBBS, FRCS (Tr&Orth)

Specialises in

I underwent my basic medical training at St Mary's Hospital Medical School, London, and qualified in 2000, after 6 years of study and an intercalated BSc. in Neuroscience. After completing four years of General Surgical Training in and around London I moved to Oxford and spent six years on the Oxford Orthopaedic Specialist Registrar training programme, where I developed an interest in adult knee surgery and children’s orthopaedics. In 2009 I completed my specialist training with a fellowship based at The Children’s hospital Westmead in Sydney, Australia.

I started my Consultant post at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2010, on my return from Australia, and I was made a substantive NHS consultant in November 2011. I am now referred patients from all over the UK, but generally see patients from the surrounding counties of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire. With a bespoke practice, I am one of only a handful of surgeons in the UK who has expertise in treating knee problems in patients of all ages, from new-borns to elderly patients.

I am heavily involved in research within the Royal Berks, being lead Principal Investigator on several national multicentered research studies. I also teach as faculty on a number of specialist courses around the UK. I have also edited the famous FRCS Viva book on Trauma and Orthopaedics published by Oxford University Press. The 2nd Edition is due to be published shortly.

I am a keen sportsman, with a ‘work hard – play hard – can do’ attitude. Currently my spare time is split between ultrarunning and golf.

My background is sport, sport and more sport. I am a keen golfer and continue to play to a decent level. I am a trustee for a National injury prevention charity www.poweruptoplay.org looking to implement a UK strategy to combat the increasing rates of ACL injuries in our young athletes. I am also known to enjoy a game of Rugby and often head to Cardiff as a proud supporter of the Welsh Rugby Team.
