Professional profile

I qualified from the University of Manchester in 1984. I trained in Manchester, Cardiff and the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. I then took up a Consultant position in Leeds in 1998 and moved to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff in 2001.

I provide a surgical service at Spire Cardiff Hospital for patients with gastro-intestinal complaints and hernias. My special interest is in diseases of the upper gastro-intestinal tract, particularly the oesphagus, stomach and gallbladder. I undertake diagnostic and therapeutic gastroscopy. I also provide laparoscopic surgery for patients with gall bladder disease, acid reflux disease and hiatus hernia. I have extensive experience in the accurate assessment and care of patients with cancer of the oesophagus and stomach.

I have had considerable research experience in the field of oesophageal disease. I have also recieved a number of substantial grants from Yorkshire cancer Research and The Royal College of Surgeons of England to investigate the causes of Barrett's Oesophagus and genetic basis of oesophageal cancer.
