I have worked in neurosurgery units in India, Kenya and the UK since 1995. I have over 15 years of experience working in neurosurgical units in the UK including London, Newcastle, Cardiff and Birmingham. I have been a Consultant Neurosurgeon since 2012. I have got sub specialty interest in the management of chronic pain and spasticity using Neuromodulation. I am the only Neurosurgeon in the Welsh NHS conducting procedures for spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation for chronic pain.
I specialise in brain and spinal surgery in adults and children with specific interest in spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain and peripheral nerve stimulation for facial pain and headaches. In the past 15 years I have done over 3,000 neurosurgical procedures including over 300 brain and spine tumours, over 700 spinal operations, over 200 spinal cord stimulators, over 500 VP shunt procedures and over 200 peripheral nerve stimulation. I have performed over 300 paediatric neurosurgical procedures including brain tumours and VP shunts.
I have completed my paediatric neurosurgery fellowship in Birmingham Children's Hospital and am one of the three paediatric neurosurgeons in the Welsh NHS providing neurosurgical care to the children of Wales. In my NHS practice I also look after patients with general neurosurgical conditions for example; brain and spinal tumours, degenerative disc disease, hydrocephalus, congenital abnormalities etc.
I am the consultant in charge of clinical coding for neurosurgery at the University Hospital of Wales. I am also the rota manager for the neurosurgical trainees in the department.
I am a clinical tutor for medical students at Cardiff University.
