I have worked as a consultant cardiologist in Morriston Hospital since 2006. I went to medical school at the University of Southampton and undertook clinical training in Southampton, London and South Wales. I undertook a specialist fellowship at the Hammersmith Hospital in London, performing coronary angioplasty. Following this I went to Paris to train in emergency heart attack treatment. I am a specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease. I was a member of the NICE guideline group for the acute treatment of heart attack.
I specialise in the treatment of coronary and valvular heart disease. I am an expert in simple and complex coronary angioplasty. My angioplasty skills include radical angioplasty, chronic total occlusion (CTO) re-opening, intravascular imaging and rotational arterectomy. I also perform 'key-hole' valve replacement - transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), having performed the first TAVI procedure in Wales in 2009.
To date I have performed over 8000 angiograms and 4000 angioplasties, of which the vast majority have been performed via the wrist (radial artery). I have also performed over 150 TAVI procedures.
I am the lead clinician for primary angioplasty (emergency treatment of heart attack) in the Mid and South Wales region.
In addition to my clinical work, I have an active interest in research and I am an honorary Senoir Lecturer at Swansea University.
I am a member of the faculty for the charity 'Heart Valve Choice' which aims to improve the diagnosis treatment and management of heart valve disease throughout the UK. Visit www.heartvalvevoice.com for more information.

I have two main areas of research. Firstly I have an interest in blood clot structure and function and its role in acute coronary disease. To carry out this research I collaborate with Professor Adrian Evans and his Haemostasis Biomedical Research unit in Swansea. My second area of interest is data linkage, using real world data to study the outcomes of cardiovascular disease. For this work I collaborate with the SAIL group at Swansea University.
Consultant Cardiologist, Morriston Hospital, Swansea.
Honorary Senior Lecturer, College of Medicine, Swansea University.
In my spare time I like spending time with my wife and two daughters. I enjoy food, wine and travelling. I attempt to keep fit with a combination of cycling, poor quality five-a-side football and cricket. I am also a fully qualified ski instructor, having previously been a member of the British Alpine Ski Squad.
