Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon

Some of the principal treatments carried out by Miss Marianne Shiew at Spire include:
Intravitreal Injections (Lucentis/ Eylea/ Avastin/ Ozurdex/ Illuvien), Retinal laser procedures (multispot PRP, subthreshold micropulse macular laser, retinal tear laser), Orbital floor injections
I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in Medical Retina. I have an interest in diseases of the retina such as those caused by diabetes, and other blood vessel problems such as retinal vein occlusions as well as age related macular degeneration. I treat these conditions with the most current therapies including intravitreal injections (Lucentis, Eylea, Avastin, Ozurdex, Iluvien) and laser treatments (including PRP, macular subthreshold/ micropulse laser). My medical practice emphasizes curative measures but also considers the impact of disease on the individual patient.
I trained in London at St Thomas’ Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. My sub-specialist fellowships were in Medical Retina and Uveitis. In addition I have an interest in general ophthalmology including small incision cataract surgery by phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation.
I have previously held the post of Clinical Lead of the Peterborough & Cambridgeshire Diabetic Eye Screening Service with responsibility for the clinical governance of the programme which delivered retinal screening to approximately 30,000 patients.
I have an honorary research fellowship at the Vision and Eye Research Unit (VERU), Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. I am currently a principal investigator in 3 national collaborative studies: STAR, DIAMONDS and CANDLE investigating treatments in Age Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic macular Oedema.
