Professional profile

Miss Shiew is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specializing in Medical Retina. She has an interested in diseases of the retina such as those caused by diabetes, and other blood vessel problems such as retinal vein occlusions as well as age related macular degeneration. I treat these conditions with the most current therapies including intravitreal injections (Lucentis, Eylea, Avastin, Ozurdex, Iluvien) and laser treatments (including PRP, macular subthreshold/ micropulse laser). Miss Shiew approaches every individual patient in a holistic manner.

Miss Shiew trained in London at St Thomas’ Hospital, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and Moorfields Eye Hospital. Marianne also did sub-specialist fellowships in Medical Retina and Uveitis. In addition I have an interest in general ophthalmology including small incision cataract surgery by phacoemulsification.

As the Clinical Lead of the Peterborough & Cambridgeshire Diabetic Eye Screening Service, she was responsible for the clinical governance of the programme which delivers retinal screening to approximately 30,000 patients.

Miss Shiew was previously the Clinical Lead of the Peterborough and Cambridgeshire NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Service which delivered retinal screening to a population of approximately 30 thousand patients.

She holds an honorary research fellowship at the Vision and Eye Research Unit (VERU), Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge. She actively participates in collaborative research in the field of diabetic retinopathy and age related macular degeneration.

Personal Profile

I have a longstanding interest in nature conservation, having performed projects as a BTCV volunteer in which I have gained skills such as traditional hedge laying. I lead an active lifestyle and train in crossfit. I also have a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and the Japanese sword art of Iaido.
