Dr Christopher Allen
MA, MD, FRCP
After broad general professional postgraduate training in London I have specialised in Neurology since 1982, being appointed a consultant Neurologist at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in 1986. In addition to a wide experience and expertise in general neurology including a research interest in Stroke and experience of Neurophysiology I now also have special expertise in Peripheral Nerve disease and Motor Neurone Disease. My practice has remained predominantly general Neurology dealing with the diagnosis and treatment (non-surgical) of such conditions as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, headache syndromes, dementia, and other spinal cord and peripheral nerve disorders.
As a physician of the Nervous System I provide outpatient consultations for people with or suspected of having neurological disorders. Medical therapies are provided in liaison with General Practitioners and I have close links with my neurosurgical colleagues in the same hospital with whom I confer if surgical treatments are indicated.
In the past I have successively been Chairman of the Addenbrooke’s Hospital Consultant Staff Council, Dean of the University of Cambridge School of Clinical Medicine and Clinical Director of Neurology at Addenbrooke’s Hospital. In addition I have been elected to the council of the Association of British Neurology and the council of the British Peripheral Nerve Society.
I am currently Director of the Addenbrooke’s Hospital Motor Neurone Disease Care and Research Centre.
Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital is only able to provide Covid-19 tests to patients undergoing surgery at our hospital. Covid-19 testing or antibody tests are not available as a standalone service.
