Professional profile

I studied medicine at the Government Medical College in Baroda, India and was awarded a postgraduate degree (Master of surgery) in trauma and orthopaedics in 1995. I worked as an orthopaedic consultant from 1995 to 2004 in India with special interest in MSK trauma, bone infection and degenerative spine diseases. I also had the opportunity to work as an orthopaedic trainee at various centres in the UK, before I was awarded a national training number (NTN) in rehabilitation medicine from 2007 to 2011 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

I worked as a consultant in neuro and trauma rehabilitation in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and then Stoke-on-Trent from 2011 to 2012, before joining as a consultant at the Regional Spinal Cord Injuries Centre (SCIC) in London and, Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust, Stanmore. My routine work at London SCIC involves specialist rehabilitation of complex traumatic and non traumatic spinal injuries in adult patients, disability management following Spinal Injuries and major Trauma, complex spasticity management with (botulinum toxin injections, intrathecal baclofen drug delivery), neuropathic pain management, musculoskeletal interventions in these patients including joint injections) and osteoporosis management.

I have also successfully developed a regional specialist spinal rehabilitation service for metastatic spinal cord compression and Cauda Equina Syndrome, at London SCIC.

I have presented my academic work in orthopaedics (DYNESYS spine stabilisation system) and rehabilitation medicine (movement disorders, DVT and thromboprophylaxis, UTI, depression management, Multiple Sclerosis, Metastatic Spinal Cord compression and Cauda Equina Syndrome) at various national and international conferences.

I have been appointed as an honorary senior lecturer in Musculoskeletal science, by University College London. I regularly contribute to multidisciplinary teaching programmes including Spinal Cord Injury Study Days at Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust and other institutions.
