Professional profile

I am a consultant cardiologist and an expert in the management of atrial fibrillation (AF, irregular heart beats), including catheter ablation. I am part of the award winning team at Barts Heart Centre pioneering day-case AF Ablation treatments and perform all key therapies for heart rhythm problems, including pacemaker and ICD insertions. My role leading the institution of new patient-centred safety measures at Barts, which aim to minimise complication risks of procedures, has given me a high degree of expertise and experience in managing and preventing such problems.

I specialise in investigating and treating heart rhythm problems, and have a special interest in innovation to help patients in cardiac arrhythmia care. I have invented several new cardiac devices, and my track record in innovation has been recognised by my appointment to the European Heart Rhythm Association’s Innovation committee.

I have performed over 500 catheter ablation procedures for atrial fibrillation and other arrhythmias, and over 500 pacemaker and ICD procedures, including device implantation and generator changes.

I am the lead for Local Safety Standards for Invasive Procedures within Barts Electrophysiology. In addition to my clinical work, I hold honorary positions at University College London and Queen Mary University of London, and collaborate closely with Medical Engineering and basic science departments in these institutions.

I am a board member and shareholder of Epicardio Ltd, the world’s first online whole heart simulation (
