General medicine: Cardiology:
I qualified from St. Thomas' Hospital Medical School, University of London gaining a BSc Physiology with 1st Class Honours 1977 and MBBS 1980. I completed my post-graduate training in cardiology at Groby Road (Glenfield) Hospital, Leicester and returned to St. Thomas' as a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellow in 1987 I was awarded hmys MD in 1994. He was appointed as Consultant Cardiologist at West Cumberland Hospital and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist South Cleveland in 1995. I was the first interventionally trained cardiologist in Cumbria and pioneered a North Cumbrian mobile ECHO service to study patients in the community with suspected diagnosis of heart failure. I returned to Bristol having brought new services to other units, with experience in leading three cardiology departments. I also hold an honorary contract at Walsgrave University Hospital Coventry, where he has regular interventional sessions. I now consults exclusively in the private sector and my clinics in England and Glasgow. I can therefore see patients outside my scheduled clinic times on request. I also offer home visits with ECG and ECHO if required. I use new innovative technologies for my cardiology services, offering continuity of care and true 'patient choice' to families and businesses in the UK. Telemedicine enables me to monitor patients at home or abroad using my iPhone. I have been using it for the acute and semi- acute management of patients in the UK and this year with GPRS units I have monitored them when they travel abroad (as far as Australia) on holiday or business.
