You’ve probably given your body a hard time over the Christmas break but January is the month to Love Your Liver!
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Jan Melichar at Spire include:
Psychiatry: Alcohol dependency
I have a special interest in helping patients and their families with illnesses where depression, anxiety, or substance misuse are the main feature. I am a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Psychopharmacology at the University of Bristol Medical School and Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist in Substance Misuse for the local NHS Mental Health Trust. I have previously been a consultant in the regional Psychopharmacology Unit, working with patients with difficult-to-treat anxiety and depression. I have always been fascinated by research looking at the role and actions of the drugs used in psychiatry and how they can be improved. Research carried out at the Psychopharmacology Unit of Bristol Medical School and the MRC Cyclotron Unit at Hammersmith Hospital led to a research doctorate (MD) in the neuroimaging of opiate addiction in 2004. My long term interest in the biological basis of psychiatric disorders is balanced by an awareness that successful treatment requires an understanding of the whole person and that every patient is an individual.
