Nimal Kuruppu-Arachchilage talks about being a Perioperative Practitioner at Spire Bushey Hospital

“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to bring a creative and satisfactory solution in a difficult situation in the operating room”

"I have worked for Spire Bushey Hospital for over a year. Before joining Spire I worked at Wellington Hospital as a Senior Orthopaedic and Spinal Preoperative Practitioner for 8 years. Then I worked at London Bridge Hospital as a Lead Spinal Preoperative Practitioner for a year. After that I joined Spire Bushey Hospital.

I was trained as a General Nurse Practitioner then I had an Advanced Scrub Practitioner Course at Greenwich University in 2005. This training allowed me to assist the surgeons with surgical procedures such as positioning the patients, retracting tissues & organs, suture cutting, suctioning and so on.

The most rewarding part of my job is the opportunity to learn about new medical-surgical devices and development, working with wonderful people in general, helping colleagues, patients, consultants and being able to bring a creative and satisfactory solution in a difficult situation in the operating room.

Living in locally helps me financially & spend more time with my family.

I have used many of my skills as a Surgical Assistant in Spire Bushey's theatres since I joined the hospital. At Spire Bushey Hospital the business is growing rapidly and the demand for my role in the Theatre Department is increasing.

Spire Bushey's Theatre Department has a family atmosphere and the feeling is of being part of a big family."
