Ever since Katie was little, she has dealt with Prader Willi Syndrome. Recently, her health took a turn for the worst, and deteriorated so rapidly, that Katie went to Watford General Hospital for help. The hospital told her that she would be unable to have a heart scan due to it being the Christmas period, and the unit would not be opening again until the 3rd January. Katie parents decided to take matters into their own hands and go to Spire Harpenden Hospital to see Cardiologist Consultant, Dr Moore in January 3rd 2017.

Dr Moore performed the tests and scans that Katie desperately needed, deciding that it was best for her to be put diuretics to help relieve the pressure on her heart. The results of this, even Katie didn’t expect. Katie lost a staggering three stone of fluid that was drowning her organs in three weeks . Since February, Katie has lost more weight and now weighs an healthy nine stone seven! The weight loss meant that her heart is at full functionality and her life expectancy is now normal.

She is now almost a non-diabetic since the weight loss, and you can find her either in the gym three times a week or out on her every day walks.

A huge thank you to Dr Moore who gave Katie the support she needed when nothing seemed to work or help. It’s hard to believe that only last year Katie was in a wheelchair and using oxygen 24 hours a day, but now she is living in a new residential home with lots of activities which gives her a wonderful quality of life.
