I wanted to say a big thank you to the marvellous staff at Spire Harpenden for looking after me while in was in hospital for my knee arthroscopy. Having been to Spire Harpenden Hospital twice before I knew I would be in good hands and decided to come in for a consultation with Mr Bradnock.

I came to the hospital not knowing what had happened to my knee. It had deteriorated over four weeks to a point where I could barely stand! Mr Bradnock advised me that my knee cartilage had torn and had to be removed. He sent me for a MRI scan before deciding that I needed a knee arthroscopy that he was able to schedule for two days later. I was delighted that I could have this operation so quickly.

My ward nurse Issy Jackson was fantastic! She was there on both days for my stay and really helped explain things to me in simple terms when I was still feeling woozy from the anaesthetic.

Since my operation I have been to the hospital multiple times for physiotherapy, gradually building the strength in my knee. My assigned physiotherapist, Gill, has been a tremendous help giving me the confidence and support that I needed to get stronger.

I am happy to be able to recommend Spire Hospital, Harpenden to anyone.

Comments from the Consultant:

“Mrs Freeman developed sudden severe pain in her knee and the MRI confirmed a torn cartilage. She underwent surgery before the torn cartilage could create a pothole in the knuckle of her bone and hence she has made an excellent recovery. Patients who delay surgery for a long time develop secondary problems caused by the torn meniscus (cartilage) damaging the very smooth articular surface causing a pothole to develop. This is the start of arthritis and consequently it is better to have surgery earlier rather than later for a condition such as this. Furthermore Mrs Freeman’s recovery has been faster as she has not been incapacitated by pain and as a consequence her muscle bulk has been preserved.”
