Two-year-old Oliver Shaw had an adenoidectomy and insertion of grommets at Spire Leeds in April 2015 under the care of Mr Lindsey Knight.

Oliver’s mum, Abby Shaw, shares their family’s hospital experience.

“My two-year-old son Oliver was recently at Spire Leeds for his having his adenoids removed and grommets fitted. There aren't enough words to explain the amazing team there.

"I was very anxious about the operation but from the first appointment with Mr Knight I was put completely at ease. He explained everything and answered every question we had, however I was still the anxious mum as would be expected.

Oliver and I then visited the hospital the day before the procedure and we were talked through the process of the day and shown the room Oliver would be staying in and again put totally at ease.

On the morning of the surgery I couldn't have asked for a better team of people to have looked after my family. I was a nervous wreck as this was the first time either of my children had been under anaesthetic but the nursing team were lovely. They were amazing with Oliver and kept bobbing in to see him before the procedure so that he was familiar with them.

Every time they wanted to tell us something they bent down to Oliver's level and talked to him as well as us. If they saw I was upset they would offer reassuring words or hugs if needed!

Mr Knight and the anaesthetist came to our room before the operation and again discussed any queries. Post-operation care couldn't have been better, from the food offered to both myself and Oliver to the toys and DVDs available and to the care from the nursing staff.

Again Mr Knight came to speak to us and discuss the operation. I just couldn't have asked for better care for either Oliver or myself. Now two months on Oliver is a much happier little boy and his hearing and speech has improved incredibly. Thank you for improving my little boy’s life."
