Dr Martin is widely recognised as one of the leading gynaecological and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgeons in Scotland.
Dr Martin is a laparoscopic surgeon and has two main areas of interest and is a nationally recognised leader in these fields. He is the Lead Clinican for the Gynaecology South East Scotland Cancer Network (SCAN) and has responsibilities to ensure cancer care is delivered effectively. Dr Martin carries out advanced procedures for cancer and is able to translate these surgical techniques to benign gynaecological surgery. He explains that very complex operations allow a precise approach which can be replicated in relatively simpler procedures. Furthermore, Dr Martin has surgical safety as a core working principle to reduce complications and improve outcome. He actively encourages patients to ask their surgeon for complication rates and patient experience.
Dr Martins second area of expertise is the management of women with endometriosis. He jointly helped establish Edinburgh as a Nationally accredited Endometriosis Centre and is working with Government to help create a Scottish Network to help women gain access to high quality care. He is an advanced laparoscopic surgeon with huge experience dealing with patients with severe endometriosis.
Dr Martin feels that patient trust and confidence together with good communication are essential. He encourages patients to contact him directly to answer questions they may have in relation to their health.
