Professor Peter Lodge
Consultant Hepatobiliary and Weight Loss Surgeon
I perform laparoscopic gastric bypass/weight loss surgery. Following intensive training in Copenhagen, I introduced modern Scandinavian techniques to Spire Leeds Hospital for this challenging surgery, with an emphasis on rapid recovery. I am recognised internationally as one of the world's most experienced liver surgeons. I have a major hepatobiliary service and take referrals from all around the UK and abroad, including other major hepatobilary centres.
I have been a consultant surgeon at Spire Leeds Hospital since 1992, following on from training in the Yorkshire region and working at Harvard Medical School in Boston, USA.
I was awarded my Chair in Surgery in 2004 in recognition of my significant contributions to advances in surgical techniques.
I provide a service for difficult liver tumours, often taking on cases considered to be inoperable elsewhere. I also deal with complex biliary strictures and injuries to the liver and bile ducts, often laparoscopically.
My NHS and private patient programme has grown from six hepatic resections and two bile duct cases in 1992 to 350 major resections and up to 80 complex bile duct operations each year by 2010.
As a biliary specialist I welcome routine gallstone cases. In addition to my busy clinical programme I run a laboratory, actively researching to improve results in modern surgical techniques.
In 2009 I was awarded the Gold Medal of Honour by the Danish Surgical Society.

My wife and I married in 1985 and we have three children and a springer spaniel. I enjoy cooking and say 'a surgeon should do something else with their hands!'
