Professor Julian Halcox

I am an experienced clinician scientist with a special interest in coronary artery disease and cardiovascular disease prevention. I have been a Consultant Cardiologist since 2003. My current NHS base is at the Morriston and Singleton Hospitals in Swansea, having previously been on the consultant staff at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, University College London Hospital, The Heart Hospital, The London Clinic, The Harley Street Clinic and Great Ormond Street Hospitals. I have an academic base in the Institute of Life Sciences, Swansea University Medical School, where I have an active research programme.
I graduated from the University of Cambridge in 1991 and trained in cardiology at The London Chest, St. Bartholomew’s and University College London Hospitals, also spending three years as a visiting scientist in the US National Heart Lung and Blood Institute between 1998-2001.
I have particular expertise and an international profile in the field of preventive cardiovascular medicine, with a particular clinical and research interest in managing high blood pressure and lipid (cholesterol) disorders. I also have a great interest in the investigation and treatment of coronary artery disease (angina) and atrial fibrillation and have an active clinical research programme in these disease areas. I have been involved in the development of European, as well as local expert, guidelines for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Professor Julian Halcox at Spire include:
Ambulatory ECG monitoring, myocardial perfusion scanning (SPECT).
