Some of the principal treatments carried out by Professor Amjad Parvaiz at Spire include:
My special interest is in colorectal cancer and benign diseases. I have developed my practice for laparoscopic colon and rectal surgery.
I am one of only a few surgeons in the country offering laparoscopic rectal (TME) surgery for rectal cancer and ileo-anal pouch surgery to patients with Ulcerative colitis and FAP. I am a specialist colorectal surgeon with a comprehensive training in general, colorectal and laparoscopic surgery.
I trained in South Africa between 1994-98 before coming to England in 1999. Working in Yeovil with Robin Kennedy, ignited my interest in laparoscopic surgery. I went on to work at Basingstoke, firstly as research Fellow and subsequently as Senior Registrar in Colorectal Surgery.
I completed my specialist registrar training in colorectal surgery in Wessex. My specialist colorectal training included the UK National Laparoscopic Fellowship at Colchester in 2005, where I received training from Professor Roger Motson in advanced laparoscopic pelvic surgery.
I hold the position of Professor of Surgery working as Director of Laparoscopic colorectal unit and Victory Institute of Minimal Access Surgery (VIMAS) at Portsmouth.
I have presented my clinical outcomes at both National and International meetings. My work is also extensively published in peer review journals. At Portsmouth I am actively involved in medical education and clinical skills training. My work at National and International level was recognised and I was awarded a Chair in Surgery by the University of Portsmouth in June 2011. I am one of the leading national trainers for the consultants' training program in laparoscopic colorectal surgery project, run by the Department of Health to promote training in key-hole bowel cancer surgery.
