I graduated in medicine from Glasgow University in 1987 went on to complete my higher training in obstetrics and gynaecology in the West of Scotland, developing an interest in urogynaecology and minimally access surgery during my training. I have the RCOG accreditation in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic skills. In January 2001 after completing my training, I was appointed as consultant at Rotherham General Hospital where I set up a urogynaecology service. In 2004 I moved to work closer to home at Queens Hospital Burton. Since then I have been instrumental in developing an integrated urogynaecology service, ultimately resulted in the unit achieving National Accreditation in 2011 – one of only five units to be recognised in this way in the United Kingdom.
My areas of special interest are urogynaecology and pelvic floor dysfunction. This involves the management of women with urinary incontinence, prolapse and recurrent prolapse and pelvic pain due to painful bladder syndrome and endometriosis. I continue to see patients with general gynaecological problems such as menstrual dysfunction, premenstrual syndrome, menopause, ovarian cysts, recurrent miscarriages, fibroid and endometriosis and offering key hole surgery for these conditions where appropriate. I continue to offer laparoscopic hysterectomy and laparoscopic surgery to treat ovarian cysts. I also have a paediatric and adolescent gynaecology clinic, where I see young children and teenagers with gynaecological problems.

I am interested in cooking and baking in my free time and enjoy trying different cuisine and entertaining family and friends. I enjoy travelling with my family learning about the lives of different people around the world and also am a very keen historian. I believe that learning and understanding history means we learn and are able to appreciate what we have and develop ideas to improve our lives. I play badminton and swim to relax from work. My daughter is now off to University, she has now taken up learning golf with the help of my husband who is a “mad” golfer.Back to top
