Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mrs Claire McCormack at Spire include:
I qualified from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2000 with a BSc Hons degree in physiotherapy, having previously graduated from Ripon and York St. John University with a BEd Hons degree in Biology and Education. My interest in physiotherapy began when I was a primary school teacher in Barnsley, where I worked closely with a physiotherapist who came regularly into school to treat a little boy with muscular dystrophy. This prompted me to return to university again and have a complete career change.
I began my career as a rotational physiotherapist in the Mid Yorkshire Hospital NHS Trust and quickly developed knowledge in the various specialties including intensive care, respiratory medicine, neurology, acute trauma / elective orthopaedics, outpatients and gym rehabilitation.
It was my continued interest in paediatrics and my love of sport that led me to take up the position of Academy Physiotherapist at Leeds Rhinos Rugby League Club (whilst continuing working in the hospital environment).
I worked in this role for 10 years, educating players about injury and injury prevention, screening players pre-season, as well as assessing, treating and rehabilitating the injured players helping them back onto the field of play.
As a senior physiotherapist I went onto work for Yorkshire Academy Rugby League teams over a number of years and progressed to becoming the England Academy under 18’s physiotherapist in 2006 for the Test Series against under 18 Australian schoolboys. I also spent time covering a maternity leave as the Head of Medicine for the RFL. I have completed several postgraduate courses particularly related to musculoskeletal sports injuries as well as acupuncture, kinetic control and society of orthopaedic medicine (Cyriax).
My rugby career was put on hold due to the births of my daughters and it was in 2006 I started working for Spire Methley Park. I work on both the ward with our orthopaedic inpatients and in the outpatient department treating a wide variety of musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions as part of a team of highly specialist physiotherapists.
I particularly enjoy how well we work as a team at Methley Park; we work closely with our consultants and have easy access to X-ray and MRI services should our patients need further investigations. The wide range of patients that we treat at Methley Park provides me with the opportunity to use both my sports experience in treating young adults as well as my orthopaedic and rehabilitation skills.
