Mrs Carrie Wingfield
Consultant Nurse Dermatology
MSc, BSc, RCN
"The facilities and staff at Spire Norwich Hospital provide exactly the right atmosphere and surroundings for a relaxed patient to clinician consultation."
Specialises in
I have worked in the field of dermatology for 25 years, based at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation Trust (NNUHFT). I primarily specialise in the diagnosis of skin cancer and precancerous skin lesions, and see patients on a daily basis for diagnostic assessment and surgical removal. My diagnostic skills include benign skin lesions, which may require no treatment, but I can advise or perform minor procedures to remove. My clinical skills include a high standard of minor dermatological surgery for both skin cancer and benign skin lesions.
I have been operating and performing minor and more advanced dermatological surgery throughout my career, operating on most days of the week in dermatology outpatients, both at the NNUHFT and Cromer Hospital. I also provide surgical and diagnostic dermatology services to other hospitals as a locum. My training has been with Senior Consultant Dermatologists who specialise in surgery and skin cancer and I am a member of the Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary team.
I have played a key role in the development of dermatology services in both my own region and at a national level with my role in the British Dermatological Nursing Group (BDNG) as past President and now Trustee. The BDNG is a charitable organisation that prioritises dermatology education for healthcare professionals across the UK. I have been presented with the Stone Award for dermatology, which is a prestigious lifetime achievement award for significant contribution to the field of dermatology. I was the first independant nurse prescriber and nurse consultant in the NNUHFT and have won awards for service innovation and leadership. I am the chair of the Advanced Practice Oversight Group for the NNUHFT.
I am the faculty lead for the British Dermatological Nursing Group (BDNG) Surgical course and Honorary Consultant for the Skin Surgery subgroup committee for the BDNG.

I have many pursuits outside of healthcare, mainly at the moment entertaining and looking after my two young grandchildren. I spend my time with them and my partner walking our dog and enjoying the Norfolk Norfolk coastline. Every year I visit the west highlands of Scotland for outdoor pursuits including hiking, kayaking, usually in very remote places and spend my time looking for wildlife and eagles. I have a great sense of humor, which I put to good use in the workplace and with my patients to try to ease anxiety and make the experience with me as enjoyable and relaxed as possible.
