I am a general gynaecologist with a national & international reputation. In addition to 5 years at medical school, I completed six years specialising in general Obstetrics & Gynaecology, three years research into endometriosis in the Nuffield department in Oxford and three years super-specialising in reproductive (fertility & hormone) medicine and laparoscopic surgery at University College London.
I owe my career to a woman I looked after in labour as a medical student. She said that I had made a difference when looking after her in labour and asked me "had I thought about going into this Obstetrics and Gynaecology?"
I have been a consultant for 17 years and provide advice, scanning and surgery for early pregnancy problems, period problems, abnormal bleeding, pelvic pain & Endometriosis, fibroids and ovarian cysts, prolapse, incontinence, perimenopause and hormones. I have published articles and books related to these topics.
I am lead Gynaecologist for the Endometriosis Centre at St Michael's University Hospital where I work with a dedicated team of doctors, nurses and physiotherapists to provide surgery and treatment for women with severe endometriosis. I am past chair of the Association of Early Pregnancy Units (AEPU), a national organization setting standards in early pregnancy & emergency care. I am current chair of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) guideline on diagnosis and management of endometriosis, which will publish in September 2017. I am principal investigator at St Michael’s University Hospital for research into miscarriage and endometriosis and in 2016, I was awarded top 100 researchers in the UK.
This work was submitted as a thesis to the University of London and awarded a higher degree (Doctor of Medicine) in 1996.
