I have been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for over 10 years with a special interest in hip and knee replacement surgery. I am currently performing more than 350 joint replacements a year. I specialise in minimally invasive hip and knee replacements with Enhanced Recovery Protocol (ERP). Both these techniques combined offer faster recovery, shorter hospital stay (usually one night), speedy rehabilitation, lower complications rates, cosmetically pleasing results and better patient satisfaction.

I use 'piriformis preserving, minimally invasive, posterior approach' for hip replacements that help to preserve important biomechanics of the hip joint after the replacement surgery. The skin incision is usually 2 to 3 inches long. Blood loss and pain is much less compared to the traditional approach and the recovery is much faster. Patients start walking on the same day of surgery and are usually discharged home the next day. Some patients can go home the same day depending on their mobility with crutches.

I use a minimally invasive surgical approach for knee replacements, often with the subvastus approach that doesn't require cutting of the thigh muscles. This approach helps patients mobilise with less pain and can reduce the stiffness problem. The skin incision is usually 4 to 6 inches long.

I strongly believe in partial knee replacement if it is suitable. Compared to full knee replacement, it offers much faster recovery, better knee function (closer to natural knee) and significantly lower complication rates. Patients are often ready for home on the same day of surgery. I perform 80 - 100 partial knee replacements a year.

I also perform surgery for trochanteric bursitis, especially if it has underlying tendon tears. These are done as a last resort procedure once other measures have failed to work. Most patients experience longer-lasting pain relief after the surgery.

Based on my results and outcomes, I have received the following awards:

  • Best Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon in Staffordshire 2018: Global Health & Pharma Award
  • Best Hip & Knee Replacement Surgeon in Staffordshire 2019: Global Health & Pharma Award
  • Clinical Excellence Award 2021 - iwantgreatcare
