Professional profile
I trained Medicine at The Royal London Hospital undertaking an intercalated degree in Neurophysiology with 1st Class Hons. Following ‘house doctor’ posts, I worked in A&E / trauma centre at the Royal London, and then underwent general surgical training at St George’s and the Royal Marsden Hospitals – including posts in Urology, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and cardio-thoracic surgery.
It was during this period that I developed an interest in urology as a speciality, and went on to join Professor Moncada’s world-renowned research team at the Wolfson Institute, UCL to undertake basic science research into the molecular biology of genital and prostate smooth muscle function. This culminated in the patenting of Rho-kinase inhibitors for the treatment of benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH). I subsequently spent six years training in Urology on the Wessex Urological training programme, working at Portsmouth, Southampton, Bournemouth and Salisbury. This included a period of paediatric urology at Southampton.
I undertook a Fellowship in Andrology at the Institute of Urology, London, followed by a period as Locum Consultant Urologist at UCLH. I then took up a substantive Consultant post at the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester in January 2009.
In the interests of sub-specialisation, research and regional service development, I moved to join a team of eight colleagues at University Hospital Southampton in January of 2013. Together we provide the full range of urological care – team-working and inter-referring to ensure that all patients are cared for by specialists who have extensive experience of their particular condition.
My part in that is to provide a regional service in Andrology and genito-urethral surgery, treating patients from across Hampshire, Dorset and beyond with conditions such as urethral strictures, Peyronie's disease, sexual dysfunction, infertility, or other more complex reconstructive problems.
