Specialises in
I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon and Honorary Assistant Professor at Nottingham University NHS Trust. My training has been in international centres of excellence. I graduated in medicine from The University of Cambridge and also hold a first class honours degree in biochemistry. My residency training was in Cambridge and the West Midlands where I developed a keen sub-specialist interest in cataract and glaucoma. Following this I completed a two-year medical and surgical glaucoma fellowship at the world prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital, where I worked closely with two of the UK founding fathers of modern day glaucoma filtration surgery.
I have performed several thousand cataract operations with a complication rate significantly lower than the national average. I am vastly experienced in glaucoma filtration surgery including augmented trabeculectomy and aqueous-shunt tube surgery, and have performed hundreds of laser treatments for glaucoma including selective laser trabeculoplasty and cyclodiode laser. I offer some of the latest minimally invasive glaucoma surgical treatments to help manage and stabilize glaucoma. I have trained several international fellows in these modern day techniques and am an examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists as well as a trainer on the prestigious microsurgical surgical skills course.
I have published over 20 peer reviewed scientific papers as well as written a book chapter in the world’s best selling glaucoma textbook for specialists. I have published my work in the most prestigious ophthalmology journals and presented my research work at major national and international ophthalmology conferences and am regularly invited to speak, chair and moderate sessions at them. I was the undergraduate lead for ophthalmology at the Queens Medical Centre, and have been appointed the title of Honorary Assistant Professor by the University of Nottingham School of Medicine as recognition to my dedication to ophthalmic teaching and research.
My aim is always to provide the highest standard of glaucoma therapy, cataract surgery and ophthalmic expertise in a caring and informed manner, as well as the most up-to-date and appropriate treatment for my patients.
