Mr Paul Kirkland
Consultant ENT Surgeon
MBBS, FRCS (Eng), FRCS (ORL-HNS)
I am a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgeon for the East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, working at both the Conquest and Eastbourne District General Hospitals.
While I treat all general ENT disorders, I have developed a particular interest in the management of conditions affecting the thyroid, parathyroid, sinuses and skin lesions. I run the One-stop Mole and Skin Lesion Removal Clinic at Spire Sussex Hospital for patients wanting mole and skin lesion removal on the face and neck area. I have introduced a new minimally invasive technique called Balloon Sinuplasty to treat sinusitis.
I qualified at St Thomas' Hospital Medical School, London in 1989 and received my specialist ENT training in London. I was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery and I'm on the General Medical Council's Specialist Register. I undertook further specialist training in head and neck surgery at the Royal Marsden Hospital and thyroid and parathyroid surgery at the Hammersmith and Charing Cross Hospitals. I was also awarded a fellowship by the European Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery and spent time training in two Centres of Excellence in Europe.
I am a core member of the Sussex Thyroid Multidisciplinary Team and attend weekly meetings. I received a National award in 2018 from the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists for the Swallow Disorder Clinic at the Conquest.
