Mr Oliver Keast-Butler
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBChB, FRCS(Orth)
Specialises in
I have been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for 11 years, specialising in primary and revision hip replacement surgery, and knee replacement surgery. I have excellent long term results for hip and replacements recorded on the National Joint Registry.
I specialise in the surgical treatment of hip and knee arthritis, and in managing complicated fractures around hip and knee replacements, which often require major joint revision operations. After completing surgical training in London and the South East, I spent a year on a fellowship at St Michael's Hospital, Toronto, specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery.
Currently, I am performing about 350 joint replacements a year, and have recorded over 2000 operations on the National Joint Registry. In the last few years I have performed over 350 joint replacements annually.
I am the lead clinician at ESHT for hip fracture care, and for the National Joint Registry. I have been actively involved in looking at the brands of hip replacement and surgical techniques used, to ensure we achieve the best long term outcomes whilst being cost effective.
Currently I am the lead for hip fracture care, and the National Joint Registry at East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust. Prior to this I was the clinical lead for the Orthoapaedic Department during the merger of inpatient trauma services in the local NHS trust.
Whilst I was lead clinician for Trauma and Orthopedic surgery at ESHT, I led the single sitting of trauma services between Eastbourne and Hastings. We now have a very busy hip fracture unit, offering daily consultant led clinical care, and I am proud of this achievement.
I am the clinical and educational supervisor for 2-3 surgical trainees at any time, and devote a lot of clinical time to teaching orthopedic surgery, particularly teaching people how to perform the surgery.
