Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Laurence Newman at Spire include:
Management of oral cancer and potentially malignant lesions of the head and neck. Management of jaw joint.
I studied both dentistry and medicine at the London Hospital Medical College University of London, qualifying as a dentist in 1981 and as a doctor in 1990. Following training as a Senior Registrar at The Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead, I was appointed as a consultant Maxillofacial Surgeon to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children and University College Hospital London in 1997. I returned to East Grinstead to take up an NHS Consultant post in September 2008. I am fascinated by law and it's interaction with medicine. I am currently a part-time postgraduate student at Cardiff University studying for an LLM (master of laws) in the legal aspects of medical practice.
During my time I have developed expertise in the management of benign and malignant conditions of the head and neck, both in children and adults. I treat patients across the entire spectrum of oral and maxillofacial surgery and have developed particular interest in salivary gland surgery. I treat all conditions of the oral cavity (mouth) and "lumps and bumps" in the neck. I have extensive experience of treating benign and malignant conditions of the salivary glands.
In over 36 years of clinical practice I have removed many thousands of wisdom teeth and cysts of the jaws. Each week I look after cancer patients requiring major resective and reconstructive surgery. In the last 21 years I have performed approximately 1000 major cancer operations.
I am an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at The University of Brighton.
