Mr John Paul Bolger
FRCS, DO, FEBOS-CR
I am one of the first surgeons to introduce microincision cataract surgery to the UK. I have been invited to lecture extensively both in Britain and abroad and my surgery masterclasses are very highly rated. I have carried out over 30,000 cataract operations and among my patients are 20 eye surgeons.
While I was a surgeon at the Queen Elizabeth II Hospital in Welwyn Garden City, I developed a special interest in the surgical management of cataract. I was one of the first surgeons to introduce phakoemulsification to Britain and went on to develop a high volume, high quality service for the NHS.
I have been continually auditing my results and in the most recent twelve month period these show success rates equal to or better than internationally published data.
I regularly teach both in the UK and abroad and am Course Director of the Winter Academy of Ophthalmology in Austria. I often lecture and operate overseas and have designed instruments for cataract surgery which bear my name.
I run one of the few Biometry courses (pre-operative testing for cataract surgery) in the world and these are attended by NHS and overseas professionals.
