I am a member of The Liverpool Eye Clinic based at Spire Liverpool. I was appointed a Consultant in University Hospital Aintree in 1990 to provide a strabismus and general ophthalmology service. I have developed this sub-specialty interest over the past 20+ years. I introduced treatment of squint using Botulinum toxin to Liverpool. I still use this in routine clinical practice.

I also provide a paediatric strabismus service which is based in Aintree and Whiston Hospitals. I have published a number of research projects based mainly on strabismus. Recently I have been involved in studies looking at the psychosocial aspects of this condition. A large number of people feel this is a cosmetic procedure but our studies have also shown significant improvement in psychosocial functioning.

Additional information

I am married with three children and live in Lancashire. I used to play hockey regularly but now spend my Sunday mornings coaching children aged 5 to 14 passing on my skills and knowledge to the future generation of sport participants. I have also played golf in the past with a handicap of 8 but this has taken a back seat while I have a young family but intend to return to this soon.

I also enjoy foreign travel with the family and allowing them to see other cultures and customs. In Thailand I undertook a cooking course which has increased (slightly) my repertoire in the kitchen. I see cooking as a type of applied biochemistry!

Owns 50% of a Humphrey visual field analyser and printer used at Spire Liverpool Hospital. (The remaining share of the equipment is owned by other consultants).
