Mr Ian Christopher Smith
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBBS London, FRCS, FRCS (trauma and Orthopaedics)
I am a Consultant in Orthopaedics and Trauma. My area of elective clinical expertise is in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery with a special interest in the complications of hip and knee replacements. I was appointed to the central region of the Betsi Cadwaladar University Health Board (formerly Conwy and Denbighshire NHS Trust) in February 2002 to develop and lead the revision hip and knee replacement service.
Prior to my appointment as a Consultant I spent two years at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry (Gobowen) where my interest in the aspect of Orthopaedic surgery developed followed by a Clinical Fellowship in Hip Arthroplasty Surgery in Cardiff. Whilst in Cardiff I obtained a diploma in Orthopaedic Engineering.
My NHS elective work is now almost exclusively related to hips and knee arthroplasty and revision surgery and these are the areas I confine my private practice.
