Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Gary Howell at Spire include:
Weight Management, Nutrition
I am an experienced and registered Dietitian and sports nutritionist. I am registered with the Health Professions Council (HPC) and a member of the British Dietetic Association (BDA). I first qualified with a first class honours degree in Applied Sports Science in 2000, following this I qualified as a Registered Dietitian in 2002 graduating from UWIC. I have also completed post graduate qualifications in sports nutrition and health and exercise science. All of which have provided me with a better understanding of the role of nutrition and exercise in maintaining a healthy weight.
I have vast experience as a weight management Dietitian. I currently hold consultancy positions at Spire Cardiff Hospital and am also the lead surgical Dietitian at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.
With wide ranging experience both within the NHS and as a freelance Dietitian I am able to provide practical dietary and body composition assessment and realistic advice on how to improve your health and wellbeing through dietary changes. I have a keen interest in behaviour change and understand the importance of building client motivation. I recognise that people change their behaviour in different ways and for different reasons; I believe that if you can harness the reason for change, greater success will occur.
I am also able to provide advice on medical therapies to help people to lose weight such as weight loss medication, non-surgical weight loss methods such as the gastric balloon and surgical interventions such as the gastric band, sleeve gastrectomy or gastric bypass. I am a key member of the weight loss team at Spire, providing full nutritional assessment and recommendations to maximise your weight loss, health and achieve your lifestyle goals.
I am a specialist in weight management and sports nutrition but also work in other areas including cancer, gastroenterology, nutritional support, cardiovascular health, diabetes, functional foods and vitamin and mineral assessment. I am passionate about the area of weight management and sports nutrition and look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
