MBChB, BMEdSc, MRCOphth, FRCSEd(Ophth)

Specialises in

I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital. I offer the full range of Ophthalmic Services at my private practice at Spire Claremont Hospital and run a friendly and informal clinic for my patients.

I was appointed in 2010 with a special interest in cataract, medical retina (macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy and inherited retinal disease) and ocular inflammation (uveitis). I have completed three Medical Retinal Fellowships in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.

I was one of the first Ophthalmologists to report on the dangers to eyesight in children resulting from the misuse of high-powered handheld laser pens bought online, and have led the campaign for better regulation on the sale and use of these devices in collaboration with Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, Royal College of Ophthalmologists, Public Health England and Civil Aviation Authority. I am a member of the UK Laser Working Group and have advised the UK Government presenting evidence at a Whitehall meeting on this important public health matter.

I have had numerous appearances on TV including BBC Breakfast, Good Morning Britain, Channel 5 News and BBC Look North advising the general public on the dangers of high powered handheld laser pens. I have also been quoted in numerous newspaper articles including the Sunday Times, Daily Mail and the Sun Newspaper.
