I trained at St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical College, qualifying in 1985. My surgical training was in hospitals in the East Anglian and Oxford Regions before moving to South East Thames following a period in research at King's College Hospital. I subsequently undertook specialty training in both Hepatobiliary surgery and Colorectal surgery initially at King's College Hospital and then as a Junior Consultant in Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. I was appointed as a Consultant at Good Hope Hospital in 1998.
I have been a consultant surgeon at Good Hope Hospital for the last 16 years. During this time I have provided planned and emergency surgical treatment for the local population. My specialty expertise includes both Colorectal surgery and Upper GI surgery covering a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions with a particular interest in gall stones. I have a keen interest in the delivery of quality services including the role of audit, clinical governance and outcome measurement. This has led to the position of Upper GI cancer lead to my role as Clinical Director of General Surgery at Good Hope Hospital from 2004 until the merger with Heart of England Foundation Trust in 2007. I have subsequently been Clinical Lead for Surgery for the Good Hope site and remain involved in service quality issues.
