I am an experienced General Surgeon in specialist University Teaching Hospital practice, having trained widely in the surgical subspecialties since qualifying from the University of Cambridge in 1981.
I have an audited caseload of over 5,000 cases (from 1999 to 2012) as a consultant surgeon in Southampton, including 1,100+ thyroid and parathyroid operations and 2,000+ breast cancer procedures. I provide a specialist surgical service for complex endocrine disorders, working in conjunction with colleagues in the audit and paediatric endocrine service and with the thoracic surgical team for intrathoracic goitres and parathyroid adenomas.
I have a wide range of academic and research interests, including Journal Publication and Publication Ethics. From 2003 - 2009 I was the Editor in Chief of the EJSO, a major international subspecialty journal in Cancer Surgery, and I was consequently invited by Elsevier Science in 2009 to take up the role of Medical Subject Chair to the SCOPUS Content Advisory Board. SCOPUS is a major citation and research data system which informed the UK's 2013 - 2014 Research Excellence Framework.
I have a wide ranging Medico-Legal practice. I am pleased to provide reports and assessments on a wide range of subjects within my areas of general and specialist surgical and wider professional experience.
