Professional profile
As an NHS ENT Consultant since 2003, I provide general adult ENT care and also have a special interest in Paediatric ENT. After qualifying from St Thomas’ Hospital I initially trained as a GP, gaining a distinction in the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners and qualifications in Obstetrics, Gynaecology and ENT. I enjoyed ENT so much that I subsequently pursued this speciality, which involved further years of surgical training at several London Teaching Hospitals including Charing Cross, The Royal Free, The Royal Marsden, The Brompton, Great Ormond Street and The Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital.
I treat patients with general ENT problems, for instance hearing loss, ear infections, blocked nose, sinusitis, lump in the throat, hoarse voice, dizziness and children with conditions such as recurrent ear infections, glue ear, snoring, sleep disordered breathing and tonsillitis. I see children in outpatients from birth and offer a surgery service for children aged one and over.
Having obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, I subsequently broadened my ENT experience during Travel Fellowships abroad. These included Paediatric ENT and Rhinology (medical and surgical treatment of the nose) in the USA (Boston) and in France (Paris and Nancy). I then spent several years at Great Ormond Street Hospital, where I was twice appointed Clinical Fellow in Paediatric ENT.
In addition to traditional tonsillectomy, I also offer Intracapsular Coblation tonsillectomy, which is an alternative surgical technique associated with a reduced risk of bleeding and considerably less post-operative pain.
I have performed over 1,500 grommet procedures and over 3,500 tonsillectomies since being appointed as a consultant.
I have recently completed five years as Clinical Lead of my NHS ENT Department.
