I am a consultant general surgeon at Spire Hartswood private hospital in Brentwood, Essex, offering private general surgery in our clean and comfortable private hospital. I am one of the few female consultant general surgeons in Essex.
I have a special interest in gastrointestinal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. I run a weekly clinic at Spire Hartswood Hospital in Brentwood, where I offer private consultations for bowel and gastro-intestinal problems. When further investigations or private surgical treatment are needed, these can be arranged promptly at Spire Hartswood Hospital.
As a lecturer in general surgery, I am involved in the education of medical students and junior surgical staff. As a surgical registrar I developed an increasing interest in the issues affecting surgical trainees. As Past President of the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT) I have represented trainees views at both regional and national level. ASiT strives to maintain standards of surgical training, a considerable challenge in view of recent changes to the surgical training programme, the implications of the New Deal for junior doctors and the impending European Working Time Directive.
I did my undergraduate training at Cambridge University and at the Royal London Hospital, graduating in 1988. I completed my surgical training in the London and North East Thames region. I developed my interest in coloproctology as a registrar, spending two years researching tumour vascular biology and the potential of tumour vascular targeting in cancer therapy. I completed a masters degree in 1997. I also worked at the Royal Free and Middlesex Hospitals where I received training in upper gastrointestinal surgery, liver resection and colorectal surgery. I was appointed Honorary Clinician to St Mark's Hospital in 1998 and, through that appointment, gained experience in the management of the complicated colorectal cases referred to a tertiary centre.

I have always been an active sportswoman. Early success as a track and field athlete has developed into an ethos of continuous sporting activity. I play hockey at a social level for Hampstead and Westminster Hockey Club and am a registered hockey umpire.
My husband and I both sail and play golf when our family commitments allow.Back to top
