Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mrs Mel South at Spire include:
Assessment and treatment/rehabilitation of musculoskeletal lower limb problems. Combined (and individual) gait lab analysis with podiatry.
After qualifying in 1993, I completed my junior rotations in Kent. Following a period of travelling, & working as a physiotherapist in New Zealand I returned to Southampton in 1996, and began my role as Foot & Ankle specialist physiotherapist in 1999, at Southampton University Hospital trust. I gained a distinction in a masters degree in "Sports injury assessment & treatment" from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2003, & began working at Spire in 2006. Throughout this time I worked with various high level sports clubs, including ice hockey, Solent Stars basketball team, & Hampshire rugby. At Spire Perform I am fortunate to be able to run combined clinics with a podiatrist in our gait lab,& still maintain extremely close links with our orthopaedic consultants.
I specialise in lower limb pathologies, with a special interest in the foot & ankle. This includes trauma, biomechanical assessment, as well as pre & post operative treatment. I run the gait lab with our podiatrist & offer a unique, combined clinic with him. I also work closely with one of our orthopaedic paediatric consultants, & rehabilitate many of his post operative patients.
Batchelor of Science Physiotherapy / University of Brighton / 1993
This is the qualification given to chartered physiotherapists upon qualifying.
I enjoy spending time with my husband & 2 children.
Hobbies include Obtacle Course Runs (especially if involving LOTS of mud!), and pole fitness.
