After receiving a medical degree from Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt in 1984, I completed an internship at the University Hospitals. I furthered my training in rheumatology at the Centre for Rheumatic Diseases, Royal Infirmary, Glasgow University; where I carried out my MD thesis about pulmonary affection in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and whether it is genetically related. I received a Diploma in internal medicine, a Masters degree, and MD in Rheumatology.

I run a specialised hand clinic to provide comprehensive care for hand and wrist conditions. Patients with hand joint or soft tissue pain or swelling, weakness, limited or painful movement, tingling or numbness of the hands or morning stiffness should be referred to the clinic. The Hand Clinic provides convenient access to diagnostic services, such as nerve conduction testing, radiology, musculoskeletal US as well as treatment. Close coordination occurs between the Hand Clinic and the orthopaedic and hand surgery as well as physiotherapy teams. The aim is to promote continuity and convenience for patients with hand problems.

I have introduced musculoskeletal ultrasonography into the daily rheumatology clinic which has attracted several GPs to refer to their patients for assessment and management under my care. Leading Flag for Rheumatology service: The rheumatology service provided by my team at Darent Valley hospital, England, has been highly appreciated by the patients who rated the service as excellent on the NHS patient choices website. Also the Rheumatology centre at the hospital, which I lead, was chosen as the Centre of Excellence for the south of England (one of 3 centres in England). In 2011, rheumatology service at DVH was chosen by the PCT as the best rheumatology service model in Kent.

I have been appointed Professor of Rheumatology and Rehabilitation, Ain Shams University, Egypt, since 2005 and currently am the Consultant Rheumatologist at Darent Valley Hospital and Medway Hospital, England.

I particularly have a special interest in Musculoskeletal ultrasonography, a growing specialty in the rheumatology field and have published several manuscripts studying this tool of assessment.
