I specialise in all aspects of general cardiology. I hold a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease by angioplasty (stenting) and in the implantation of cardiac rhythm management devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators. I hold further expertise in the management of heart failure and in the implantation of cardiac resynchronisation therapy to optimise cardiac contraction. I have pursued a number of research interests in these fields and was previously recognised as national ‘Scientific investigator of the Year,’ by the British Society of Echocardiography.

I am happy to see patients with all routine cardiac problems including those with chest pain, rhythm disorders, heart failure, heart valve disorders, faints, breathlessness or any other symptoms potentially relating to a cardiac complaint.

I completed my medical degree in Scotland in 2003 and undertook the majority of my cardiology sub-specialty training in London. During this period I trained in internationally recognised centres of excellence, including Imperial College and The Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Trust. Prior to being appointed as a consultant in the UK I spent two years completing international fellowships in Wellington, NZ (Cardiac Electrophysiology and Complex Cardiac Device Implantation) and in Waikato, NZ (Coronary Artery Intervention and Structural Heart Disease).

In my NHS practice, I am based at The Royal Derby Hospital where I lead the Cardiac Devices and Heart Failure Service. I also act for the Heart Attack and Interventional Cardiology Service in Derbyshire, treating both emergencies and stable patients who have coronary artery disease.

Having moved to the East Midlands in 2015 I live in a village in Derbyshire with my wife and three children. I have a son and two non-identical twin girls.

In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors and walking in particular. I have previously spent time exploring the mountains of Scotland, Wales, the Alps and the Himalayas. I recently learnt to sail and am very keen to do more of this in future. I also have an amateur interest in building restoration and conservation.
