Professional profile

I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease by coronary angioplasty and in the implantation of cardiac devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy. I hold a special interest in the assessment and management of heart failure and have developed a number of research interests in these areas. In recognition of these interests I was awarded 'Scientific investigator of the Year' by the British Society of Echocardiography in 2009.

I am very happy to see patients with all routine cardiac complaints or who are experiencing suspected cardiac symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, ankle swelling, breathlessness, dizziness and fainting.

Having completed my medical qualification in Scotland in 2003, I undertook the majority of my cardiology specialist training in North-West London. I also spent two years completing international fellowship training in coronary artery angioplasty and complex cardiac device implantation.

During my period in UK training I worked within centres of excellence that included Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and The Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. My international fellowships were completed in the city of Wellington (Cardiac Electrophysiology and Device Implantation) and in the Waikato region of New Zealand (Coronary Artery Intervention and Structural Heart Disease).

Personal profile

Having moved to the East Midlands in 2015 I live in a village in Derbyshire with my wife and three children. I have a son and two non-identical twin girls.

In my spare time I enjoy the outdoors and walking in particular. I have previously spent time exploring the mountains of Scotland, Wales, the Alps and the Himalayas. I recently learnt to sail and am very keen to do more of this in future. I also have an amateur interest in building restoration and conservation.
