Originally from South Wales, I qualified from Imperial College London in 2002 and completed my General Practice training on the Gwent Vocational Training Scheme where I gained hospital experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Emergency Medicine, Dermatology, General Internal Medicine and Paediatrics. I went on to complete my General Practice training in family practices within the Newport area. Alongside achieving Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners, I gained the Diploma of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and the Diploma in Practical Dermatology.I am a full time Principal General Practitioner working both in the public and private sectors. I ensure that I keep up to date with the full spectrum of general practice. My interests include the areas of diabetes, dermatology and medical education. I strongly believe in a holistic approach to optimising physical and mental health and wellbeing.
Since qualifying as a General Practitioner in the NHS my experience has been very broad. As the Practice Lead for diabetes, I am proactive in not only managing medical therapies, but, behavioural change and weight management too. I have regular involvement in teaching GPs and other Healthcare Professionals about the management of diabetes in primary care.
As the Practice Lead for dermatology I conduct minor skin surgery and joint injections. I also represent our practice at our Primary Care Cluster, a role which promotes and seeks to reinforce the integration of health, social care and wellbeing across the health, social care and voluntary sectors. As the Practice Lead for Medicines Management, I have gained valuable experience in monitoring prescribing policies and formulary updates.I regularly work sessions in the Cardiff & Vale Out of Hours GP service. My most recent area of interest is clinical research where I oversee clinical trials in the practice on behalf of Health and Care Research Wales, as well as a variety of UK wide universities.
As an Honorary Clinical Tutor at Cardiff University, I supervise the training of 5th Year Medical Students. I have also been responsible for overseeing the Independent Prescriber Training of a Clinical Pharmacist.
Through my private practice I have gained extensive experience of conducting private GP consultations and health assessments. I have a wide knowledge of local Consultants and specialty services.
