Chronic lung disease
Rare lung disorders
Food and inhaled allergy
Illnesses affecting newborn and young infants
I graduated from Nottingham University in 1982 and trained in a number of UK centres including the National Heart and Lung Hospital in London. In 1986 I spent a year at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, one of the world’s leading hospitals. I trained in respiratory paediatrics in this hospital and undertook research in a congenital lung abnormality.
I have been involved in research and have published multiple paper/articles and completed a research degree in 1992. I have worked as a paediatrican since 1983.
I have been a consultant paediatrician since 1992. I have extensive experience in managing a wide variety of paediatric problems. At Leeds General Infirmary I work in respiratory paediatrics, neonatology and allergy and immunology. I also worked in general paediatrics until 2008 and still do regular general paediatric clinics.
I am the lead clinician for the North of England PCD service. Primary Cilary Dyskinesia is an uncommon cause of chronic lung damage in children.
I was the principal regional examiner for the MRCPCH (Postgraduate Paediatric Examination ) for Yorkshire and Humber 2005-2015.
