I graduated with MBBS in India in 1993 and came to the UK in 1997 after completing post-graduation in Internal Medicine. I trained in renal medicine at Walsgrave Hospital Coventry, University Hospital of Wales Cardiff, District General Hospital Bangor, Guy's Hospital, London and St Helier Hospital, Carshalton. I was appointed as Consultant Nephrologist at St Helier Hospital in 2007 and obtained my Ph D in renal cell biology at the SW Thames Institute for Renal Research, St George’s University of London in 2008.
I provide renal services for patients at St Helier Hospital and Croydon University Hospital including Croydon dialysis unit. I am a lead consultant for kidney transplant services at St Helier Hospital (medical) and diabetes-renal services at Croydon. My main expertise is in renal transplant medicine and diabetic kidney disease. Other clinical interests and expertise include the management of a wide range of renal disorders, including glomerulonephritis, acute kidney injury, nephrotic syndrome, hypertension and hypertensive kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, diabetic kidney disease, inherited renal disorders, medical management of renal stone disease and urinary tract infections.
I am active in renal SpR teaching and have delivered webinars on kidney transplantation. My research interests include cell biology of renal fibrosis, understanding mechanisms of kidney scarring to develop new therapies, kidney transplantation, diabetic kidney disease and biomarkers. I have 26 original publications in peer reviewed journals, given several oral and poster presentations at national (UK renal association and British Transplant Society) and International (American Society of Nephrology) meetings, written book chapters. I have successfully conducted clinical trials as principal investigator. I regularly give lectures to GPs in Croydon and Merton areas on diabetic kidney disease. I have contributed to British Transplant Society national guidelines on living donor kidney transplantation. I supervise Ph D students at the SW Thames Institute for Renal research, St Helier Hospital.
I am a lead consultant for the medical transplant team at St Helier Hospital and diabetes renal services in Croydon.
In addition to my clinical work, I am active in clinical, translational and basic science research. I am very proud to be a part of dynamic research team at the renal unit and SW Thames Institute for Renal Research based at St Helier Hospital. Working closely with our scientific director, I enjoy my role as medical director of the research institute, contributing the research activity and providing supervision for Ph D students. High quality research feeds in to high quality, evidence based, up to date clinical practice.

Most of my spare time is taken up by research and spending time with family. In addition, I enjoy gardening, cycling and music. I read general science and technology related magazines in addition to keeping up to date with medical literature. I follow cricket keenly and hopefully will find some time to play.
