Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Michael Wilde at Spire include:
Chronic cough, asthma, lung fibrosis, respiratory infections, lung cancer, pleural disease and thrombo-embolic disease.
I studied medicine at St Bartholomew's University Hospital, London, obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree and MBBS degree, graduating in 1998. In the medical final exams I was awarded a merit for outstanding overall performance, merits in pharmacology and surgery, and a distinction in medicine.
My postgraduate specialist training was completed in hospitals in London, principally at St George's University Hospital, where, as a research fellow, I completed a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) research degree in the area of pulmonary hypertension with a particular interest in thrombo-embolic disease.
During my time at St George's University Hospital, I gained experience in advanced techniques in bronchoscopy, both flexible and rigid. I have an ongoing interest in academic medicine and attend international respiratory conferences. I am involved in several on-going clinical studies. I am a specialist within the field of Pulmonary Vascular disease and attend St George's and the Royal Brompton Hospitals to perform clinics, cardiac catheterization and multi-disciplinary team meetings.
In addition, I have brought this specialist service to the patients of Surrey and Sussex and am in the process of developing a shared care centre with St George's and the Royal Brompton Hospital. I was appointed as a Consultant Physician at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust in 2009.
I am an experienced General Medical and Respiratory Physician and am skilled at investigating and treating a whole range of lung diseases including chronic cough, asthma, COPD, lung fibrosis, respiratory infections, lung cancer, pleural disease and thrombo-embolic disease.
Special Clinical Interests: Breathlessness; Cough; Interventional bronchoscopy; Respiratory critical care; Pulmonary hypertension; Pulmonary vascular disease.
