Dr Howard P Stevens

Consultant Dermatologist

Specialises in

I am a consultant general dermatologist, skin cancer specialist and a trained Mohs surgeon. I am the lead and chair of skin cancer at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals NHS Trust (Barnet General Hospital), where I have been a consultant dermatologist since 1998. During this time I have helped build the Trust into the largest skin cancer treatment centre in London (source: BCF ). Its multi-disciplinary team (MDT) is London’s largest and the eighth largest in the country. Practising in both the NHS and private sector, my ethos is excellence in clinical care combined with a friendly and empathic patient approach.

I trained at Jesus College in Oxford, Middlesex and University College Medical School in London. After gaining membership of the Royal College of Physicians, I studied dermatology at the Royal Free Hospital. I subsequently undertook a Welcome Trust research fellowship at the Royal London Hospital. I published in the field of genetic skin disease affecting the palms and soles, and obtained a PhD from Queen Mary’s, Westfield College and Royal London Hospital, where I also undertook research into genetic skin disease. I was involved in the identification of the first gene in the aetiology of genetic deafness. Following this I developed an interest in skin cancer and advanced cutaneous surgery, training in Mohs surgery.

I am a member of the American Society of Mohs Surgery. I gained entry to the General Medical Council Specialist Register in 1998 and became a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2011.
